How does the Trainer Referral Program work?

We provide a 1% commission to NCHA and NRCHA trainers for any referral that results in a sale. When consigners fill out the form to consign a horse to our sale, they must answer the question if they were referred to us by a card-holding NCHA or NRCHA trainer. Our office will call the trainer and verify the trainer’s contact info and details before the sale. If the consigned horse is sold, 1% of the sale price is deducted from our proceeds and paid out to the trainer.

Does the consigner receive less money from the sale of their horse if they are referred by a trainer?

No. 100% of the money earmarked for the Trainer Referral Program is taken out of our 5% commission. Essentially, on trainer referred horses, we earn a 4% commission and the trainer earns the remaining 1%.

Does the horse consigned need to be in training with the NCHA trainer?

No, the trainer does not need to be affiliated with the horse in any way. As long as the consigner marks on their intake form that their horse was referred to us by a current cardholding NCHA or NRCHA trainer, we will pay the referral fee for that horse upon selling from our sale.

I answered yes to the Trainer Referral Program box. Does that change my horse’s chance of being accepted to the sale?

The Trainer Referral Program is not meant to approve or deny any horse from the sale. It was created as a way for us to say thank you and give back to the trainers that support us in the industry. Your horse has the same chance of being approved for the sale whether or not you choose to participate in the Trainer Referral Program.

A trainer mentioned your sale to me so I checked the box for the Trainer Referral Program and the trainer was verified. I put three horses in the sale, they sold for an approximate average of 33k for a total of 100k. How much will the trainer make?

In this instance, we would write a check to the trainer for $1,000.

Is there a limit to how much a trainer can make from The Trainer Referral Program?

No, there is no cap on the program- we will pay out 1% to the Trainer Referral Program of all eligible horses sold.

Are all consignments eligible for the program?

Frozen embryos not already referred by an ICSI facility, foals in utero, foals, weanlings, yearlings, and broodmares are all eligible for the program.  Frozen embryos that have been referred by a participating ICSI facility and open recipient mares are not eligible at this time.
