The Top Two Program
Optimize Outcomes with Prime Prospect Horses' Top Two Program
Introducing the Top Two Program, a trailblazing program designed to bridge the gap between high expectations and market reality in the auction horse industry. When a prized horse fails to meet its reserve price at auction, it can lead to missed opportunities and disappointment on all sides. The Top Two Program steps into this crucial moment with a unique solution, offering a platform for negotiation between the consignor and the top two bidders. This program is built on the foundation of transparency, trust, and mutual benefit.
For consignors, the Top Two Program presents a second chance to secure a sale at a value that reflects the true worth of their horse, without the pressure of an auction clock. It's an opportunity to negotiate with interested parties who have already demonstrated their commitment by being the final two contenders.
For bidders, this initiative opens the door to a more personalized purchase process. Rather than walking away empty-handed, the top two bidders are given an exclusive opportunity to revise their final bids. This can lead to more satisfactory outcomes for both buyer and seller, where conditions, prices, and terms can be adjusted to meet mutual interests.
"Top Two" is more than a program; it's a commitment to ensuring that every auction has the potential for a happy ending. Whether you're a seller who believes in the value of your horse or a bidder willing to go the extra mile for the perfect match, the Top Two Program is here to transform challenges into successful partnerships. Join us as we pave a new path in horse sales, where opportunities are maximized and no potential deal is left unexplored
How does the Top Two Program work?
We aim to have every horse that we represent result in a sale. When consigners fill out the form to consign a horse to our sale, there is a section to enter a reserve price and indicate whether or not they would like their horse to be part of the Top Two program. Should the horse not reach the consignor’s reserve price on sale day, our office will reach out to the consignor to confirm the reserve price and then reach out to the top two bidders and ask if they would like to revise their final bid. If either bid reaches or exceeds the reserve price, the horse will be sold to the highest bid.
I would like to participate in the Top Two Program for the horse I’m consigning. How do I sign up?
Easy- on the consignment intake form, check the yes box for the Top Two Program and fill out the reserve price. Should your horse not reach your set reserve price, a representative from Prime Prospect Horses LLC will reach out to you and the top two bidders.

Can I find out what horses in the sale are in the Top Two program before the sale?
No, both a horse’s reserve price and whether or not a consignor has decided to include their horse in the Top Two Program are confidential. For unsold horses, the consignor may choose to have us disclose their reserve price during the Golden Hour or during the Exclusive Negotiation Period by giving Prime Prospect Horses written consent to do so.

I was bidding on a horse and the reserve wasn’t attained and I wasn’t one of the top two bidders. If the top two bidders decide they don’t want the horse, will someone reach out to me?
By design, the Top Two Program only reaches out to the top two bidders. It’s very important that if you want the chance to be included in negotiations, that you be one of the top two bidders.

I was one of the top two bidders. Can I offer less than my final bid?
We start negotiations from your final bid and work towards the consignor’s reserve price. On behalf of the consignor, we will not entertain offers less than the final bid.

If my horse reaches its reserve price and the sale ends, can you call the top two bidders and try to negotiate a higher price?
Definitely not. The Top Two Program is ONLY for horses who haven’t met their reserve.

I received a notification that the horse I was bidding on is in the Top Two Program and I was one of the top two bidders. How long do I have to revise my bid? And do I have to revise my bid? How many chances do I get to revise my bid? And what happens if I don't respond at all?
We will accept a revised final bid from a 'Top Two' bidder until one hour after the last open sale timer ends (a.k.a. the Golden Hour). You are under no obligation to revise your final bid but if you choose to do so, you will have one chance to do so. After the original lot timer ends, there is no additional back-and-forth between the top two bidders and neither bidder will know the revised bid of the other. Should you choose not to respond to attempts to contact you before the end of the Golden Hour, your offer is considered withdrawn.

I was a "Top Two" bidder and received notice that I was the highest bidder and met the reserve price. I WON! Now what?
Congratulations on the purchase of your next potential champion! A representative from Prime Prospect Horses will reach out to you about payment and next steps.
